Hannah has been working on accumulating her driving hours since last November. Here in Colorado for us to teach driving at home, the young student needs 50 hours of driving time. Well, we felt winter was not a good time to begin teaching our daughter how to drive considering the ice and snow she would have to learn on. We will be able to do training this winter considering that she has had much practice.

Where do we drive?

We drive all over in the city or country, sometimes taking in common traffic and housing, sometimes taking in rare beauty. Hannah prefers the country driving though. One day last month as we were driving down HW105 toward Larkspur, Jackson Creek Road caught my attention. I had been wondering how to get into the mountains that sit in front of our house; we made a turn-about so we could turn onto this road. It took us straight toward the mountains and in ten minutes we were in the tree line. We could look out to the forested mountain range on both sides through the towering trees beside us. Hannah drove very slowly in awe of the scenery. She kept asking, “Do we have to go down? Do we have to go home? Can’t we just stay here?” It was a magnificent journey. After she had driven for an hour, I drove us back down and home. I can say we enjoyed that day of driving more than any other. We use this time to talk and think, sometimes talking scarcely since Hannah is concentrating, but nonetheless we share our hearts.

Yesterday, we revisited that beautiful mountain area and went further up and over. This time Hannah drove up and down all by herself and did a great job. She dreams of living in the mountains and having her ranch at the bottom.
